Seniors and board members discuss Senior Center issues with Wood Co. Commission

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - Wood County Commissioners hear from residents and board members about the Wood County Senior Citizens Center and its programs.

Those services have been an issue at recent board meetings, particularly the fact that popular activities like bingo are gone.

"The activity of choice for the seniors who were attending there, that was the bingo activity. And they took that away."

Board members again said the center wants to expand those activities, but adds that's been met with opposition from some of the seniors that use the center.

"There were some of the seniors who were playing pool and bingo, who were rude and unkind and ungracious to other people who came in there for these other activities."

Both the board and senior center patrons were told part of the issue is the center's lack of a permanent director.

The Wood County Senior Citizens Center has had five leaders in the past ten years.

Interviews have recently taken place for a new director.
