PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - UPDATE: 01/11/18 6:45 P.M.

Sheetz held a grand opening ceremony Thursday morning at its new Ann Street location.

Hundreds attended the ceremony along with Parkersburg Mayor Tom Joyce and John Corbett, the CEO of Special Olympics West Virginia.

The convenience store and gas station chain has more than 500 locations across the country.

Adam Sheetz, the Assistant VP of Store Operations, was in attendance Thursday morning.

"Parkersburg is one of the biggest towns that we would consider a hole in our footprint between the I-77 corridor in Ohio and Ripley and Charleston," he said.

"So it was kind of a big vacant spot for us that was a pretty easy choice for us."

Jim Ashley, a Parkersburg resident, was the first person to purchase an item once the store officially opened its doors.

"It's convenient whatever you're craving I'm sure they have it in stock whether it's healthy or unhealthy. They have it all," he said.

Ashley said he plans to visit this location regularly.

A second Sheetz planned for 7th Street in Parkersburg is set to open later this winter.

This Thursday is the day Sheetz opens its first area store.

The company held an open house for reporters Monday, at the store located near Juliana and Ann Streets in downtown Parkersburg.

Construction on that business began this past fall, and has continued through the holidays and even the recent winter weather.

Sheetz has locations throughout West Virginia and Ohio, but its owners tell us customers will notice some differences with the local store.

"We only have a handful of stores in the company that look like this," says company Public Relations Director Nick Ruffner. "And so, when people come in, they're going to see something a little different than they've seen in the Sheetz that are out on the road in their travels."

The official grand opening is Thursday at 11 A.M, with a ribbon cutting event set for 10:45.

Work continues on a second Sheetz store on Seventh Street. Depending on the weather, the company hopes to have that store open by the end of February.

Sheetz still hopes to open a third store, but no announcement has been made yet on a location.
