Staying safe in holiday traffic

VIENNA, W.Va. (WTAP) - Two accidents happened in the space of a day on Grand Central Avenue at the beginning of December.

That's why WTAP asked emergency responders what's the best way to handle the hustle and bustle of holiday traffic.

They say during this time of year, we have difficult weather conditions, limited daylight and drivers in unfamiliar areas.

By planning extra travel time and eliminating distractions, you can help ensure safe travels during the holidays.

"People need to pay attention because there's a lot more stop and go traffic. It is very dangerous, especially when there's an accident scene, we need people to really concentrate on their driving and not looking at what caused the accident or how much damage there is," said Steve Scholl, Chief of the Vienna Fire Department.

According to the American Safety Council, Christmas is one of the six most dangerous holidays to be on the road.
