COLUMBUS, Ohio (CNBC, AP)-- UPDATE: 7/12/2018, 1:10 P.M.
The attorney for porn actress Stormy Daniels says prosecutors have dropped all charges against her following her overnight arrest at an Ohio adult club.
Michael Avenatti represents Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford. He said Thursday afternoon in a tweet he was pleased prosecutors dropped the charges and thanked them for their professionalism.
A prosecutor's memo provided by Avenatti says an Ohio illegal touching law can't be enforced because Daniels has only appeared once at the Columbus club.
The law refers to someone "who regularly appears nude or seminude" at a club.
Messages were left with the Columbus city prosecutor's office seeking comment.

Stormy Daniels attorney tweets the porn star is expected to be released shortly.
We expect her to be released on bail shortly. We also expect that she will be charged with a misdemeanor for allowing “touching.” We will vehemently contest all charges. #Basta— Michael Avenatti (@MichaelAvenatti) July 12, 2018
ORIGINAL STORY 7/12/18 @ 1:07 a.m.
Stormy Daniels, the porn star who has made headlines for an alleged affair with Donald Trump, has been arrested in Columbus, Ohio, according to her attorney.
Michael Avenatti, who has represented Daniels, delivered the message in a Twitter post early Thursday morning. In that tweet, the attorney claimed the arrest was politically motivated, and said "it reeks of desperation."
Just rcvd word that my client @StormyDaniels was arrested in Columbus Ohio whole performing the same act she has performed across the nation at nearly a hundred strip clubs. This was a setup & politically motivated. It reeks of desperation. We will fight all bogus charges. #Basta— Michael Avenatti (@MichaelAvenatti) July 12, 2018
Avenatti tweeted early Thursday morning that Daniels was arrested for allegedly allowing a customer to touch her while on stage.
CNBC has not independently confirmed the arrest.
Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, claims she had sex with Trump in 2006, while he was married to Melania Trump.
In October 2016, on the eve of the presidential election, Michael Cohen, then Donald Trump's personal attorney, used a shell company he had set up to pay Daniels $130,000 in exchange for her signing a nondisclosure agreement.
Daniels has said the agreement barred her from speaking publicly about her tryst with Trump.
In early January this year, The Wall Street Journal broke the news about that deal arranged by the lawyers.
She was arrested for allegedly allowing a customer to touch her while on stage in a non sexual manner! Are you kidding me? They are devoting law enforcement resources to sting operations for this? There has to be higher priorities!!! #SetUp #Basta— Michael Avenatti (@MichaelAvenatti) July 12, 2018
