PARKERSBURG, WV (WTAP) - West Virginia University at Parkersburg’s Board of Governors has chosen Dr. Jane Milley as interim president for the college beginning November 16, 2017.

This comes after current president Dr. Fletcher Lamkin announced his acceptance of the position of president for Westminster College.

Dr. Fletcher Lamkin, president of West Virginia University at Parkersburg, will step down from his position to assume presidency of Westminster College in Fulton, Mo. where he was president from 2000-2007.

Lamkin, who was named WVU Parkersburg president in 2015, implemented numerous programs to increase student success and approved the first employee pay raises in many years.

Sam Winans, chair of the WVU Parkersburg Board of Governors, said the University is grateful for the contributions Dr. Lamkin has to WVU-Parkersburg under his leadership.

“We greatly appreciate Dr. Lamkin’s accomplishments at WVU-P, As a result of his leadership, the college has instituted many academic improvements and dramatically improved its appearance and functionality. We are on strong financial footing, and our students enjoy the highest retention in the West Virginia CTC system. We are sorry to see Dr. Lamkin leave but fully understand his reasons and wish him well in this important endeavor.”

Lamkin said he and his wife have enjoyed serving WVU-P and being a part of the Parkersburg community.

“Cindy and I have truly enjoyed our time with WVU-P, We have been blessed by a talented faculty and staff, a supportive Board, a wonderful student body, and a community that has been welcoming to us. We are sorry to leave Parkersburg, but returning to Westminster is a calling we feel is the right choice for our future.”

Lamkin will continue to serve as WVU Parkersburg President until an interim president is selected, a process expected to take approximately 30 days. His success as a leader and an academician were key factors in Westminster College’s decision.

Sam Winans said, even though the University is sad to see Lamkin leave them, the school has a bright future ahead of it.

“We believe that Dr. Lamkin is leaving WVU-P in great shape, We will appoint a highly qualified interim president to lead the college for the next six months while we institute a search for the next president. I am confident that the college will continue to prosper and serve the community thanks to the strong academic and fiscal foundation we have built.”
