WVUP Reaches out to Wood Co. Students

PARKERSBURG, WV (WTAP)-- WVU-P is reaching out to collaborate with area educator and build bridges to increase local student enrollment.

Monday evening, WVU-P President Dr. Chris Gilmer welcomed Wood County educators and staff to a dinner meeting to discuss this effort.

Superintendent Will Hosaflook and his staff attended the presentation by WVU-P at the Blennerhassette Hotel meeting room.

"One thing we're doing is having an early college program, when hundreds of students are getting a headstart on college by taking college level classes while still in High School, explains Dr. Gilmer. "This is one of the things that we are the proudest of."

"It's important to give access to students," agrees Supt. Hosaflook. "Access is the most important thing. And every single student has the ability to continue their education."

Dr. Gilmer says the outreach is going so well that the university will be making similar overtures to other surrounding counties as well in the near future.
