MARIETTA, Ohio (WTAP) - As the date of the general election nears, poll workers in Ohio are being trained to run their respective precincts. Washington County poll workers are participating in a two hour polling training session. There are sessions Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Every year, election workers must go through an online training and a training in person. For some, Election Day is something they look forward to all year.
“When I was working I would save vacation days to work on the election polls. You get to meet a lot of your neighbors." explains Barb Hanschumacher, a 25 year veteran of Election Day work.
"It's our civic duty, we're so privileged to vote freely in our country and everybody should take advantage of it if they can." Handschumacher adds.
She says being an election worker means eating lots of food and making new friends on election day. If you're interested in being a poll worker, you can attend the training going on this week.
