PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - It’s the season of giving. But a local credit union will have that spirit all year long next year.
The West Virginia Central Federal Credit Union is gearing up for its “50 Weeks of Giving” campaign. In honor of its 50 years of operation, the credit union will be giving away $1,000 each week for 50 weeks to various charities, groups, and organizations in the area. It will start in January.
Michael Tucker, the credit union’s president and CEO, said the staff wanted to do something to celebrate the 50 years, take into consideration its community support, and try to help out charities. As a result, this idea came up.
Tucker said this is ideal for any charitable group, any organization that needs financial support, anyone who’s working on a community type basis, and people making a difference locally.
In addition to money, the credit union also plans to provide some marketing help to the selected organizations. That can include videos and pictures of what each organization does.
“The community is who we think will ultimately benefit from this because if we can help different groups whether it be, the Thrive group or anyone else here in town then these dollars and services will flow down to individuals who are looking for some support,” Tucker said.
