PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - Dozens enjoyed food and good company between the parade time and the lighting of the Christmas tree in downtown Parkersburg Saturday.
Mayor Tom Joyce counted the crowed down shortly after six p-m to light up the tree for the holiday season.
Once the tree was lit, Santa Claus gave the call for a firework display behind the tree.
Organizers were thrilled with the turnout for Winterfest and say they already can't wait for next year.
Wendy Shriver is the executive director of Downtown PKB.
She says, "This is a great way for Downtown PKB to kick off the holiday season. We will be doing this again next year, looking for sponsors. We always like to try to add something new each year to the Winterfest event because it is a fun family friendly event."
Shriver added, "Something new we tried this year that we decided to try was pop-up vendors in our vacant store fronts so we had several vendors in there selling their wares, so that was a really cool to give that opportunity for people to shop downtown and eat while they were down here following the parade."
Shriver says People's Bank and Sheets were this year's main sponsors, but also wanted to thank the city and the police department for their help.
