WASHINGTON, West Virginia (WTAP) - UPDATE: 10/23/18 10:45 A.M.

Wood County fire officials are continuing to investigate a blaze that heavily damaged a mobile home Monday night.

The Wood County Sheriff’s Office says an elderly woman and her dog and cat escaped the fire at a trailer home on Lucille Lane at Mitchell's Mobile Home Park, located off Lake Washington Road.

Deputies say a neighbor was driving by and spotted the fire about 10:30 p.m. She and a trailer-park manager were able to help the woman, who had just moved into the trailer on Saturday, get out safely.

Crews from the Lubeck, Blennerhassett and Washington Bottom volunteer fire department responded to the scene.

The American Red Cross also responded to assist the woman.

Authorities have not said what caused the blaze, which remains under investigation by the Wood County Fire Investigation Team.
