An Athens County man convicted for shooting his girlfriend in the face in February has been sentenced to prison.
On Tuesday in Athens County Court, Christopher L. Artis, 31, of Albany, Ohio, appeared before Patrick J. Lang for sentencing.
Artis was convicted and sentenced to a total of 4 years and 11 months in prison, followed by 3 years of post-release control, on the following charges:
Negligent Assault, a misdemeanor of the third degree
Possession of Heroin, a felony of the fifth degree
Having Weapons While Under Disability, a felony of the third degree
Tampering with Evidence, a felony of the third degree
Using Weapons While Intoxicated, a misdemeanor of the first degree.
Prosecutors say on the night of February 27, 2018, Athens County Sheriff's deputies responded to a shooting at a home on Selby Road in Athens.
Deputies found that Artis had shot his 50-year-old girlfriend, Kristy Holland, in the face.
She was flown by helicopter to Grant Riverside Hospital in Columbus, where she was treated and eventually released.
This case was investigated by the Athens County Sheriff’s Office.

An Athens County man accused of shooting his girlfriend in the face on February 27, 2018 has pleaded not guilty to several charges.
Christopher Artis, 31, of Albany, is accused of shooting Kristy Holland, 50, at a residence on Selby Road in Athens. She survived the shooting after being treated at a Columbus hospital.
Artis is charged with felonious assault, possession of Heroin, having weapons while under disability, tampering with Evidence, and using weapons while intoxicated.
He is scheduled to go on trial April 15 in Athens County Common Pleas Court.
Artis is currently being held on a $100,000 bond in the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail.
An Athens woman is hospitalized with a gunshot wound to her head, and the alleged shooter is in custody charged with felonious assault.
The Athens County Sheriff's Office says Kristy Holland, 50, was shot Tuesday evening at a residence on Selby Road in Athens.
She was late flown by helicopter to Grant Riverside Hospital in Columbus. Hospitals officials said Wednesday morning they could not provide an update on her condition.
Deputies arrested and charged Christopher Artis of Albany in the shooting. He's currently in the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail on at $50,000 bond.
