Update: Wood County Board of Education formally approves excess levy

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - The board formally approved the excess levy to go to the county clerk's office. It'll be on the November 6, 2018 ballot.

The board of education also talked about construction updates at its meeting. Many roofing projects at schools in the area are finishing up.

Stadium Field at PHS is ready for new turf. The turf is expected to be delivered Thursday. The field should be ready just in time for football season.

The bathroom renovations at Parkersburg South High School's Erickson All Sports Facility will go out to bid soon. Progress is continuing on the new elementary school in Williamstown. The board expects to have a better idea of the project's timeline at its meeting August 28, 2018.

There are 27 schools in Wood County.

The Wood County Board of Education meet Thursday evening to talk about an excess levy.

The board met during a special meeting at 6:30 p.m. They had an overall discussion about what items will be considered in the levy call.

The levy is about to expire at the end of this fiscal year, and the board wants to renew it. It has to go on the November ballot to be approved or rejected by voters.

More specifics are going to be presented during the board's next meeting on Aug. 14.

The board hopes to approve a levy to go on the Nov. 6 ballot at that meeting.
