YMCA pushes opening of new child development center back

PARKERSBURG, W Va. (WTAP)- Earlier in the summer, the Parkersburg YMCA announced it was closing its Market Street branch, which featured a day-care facility.

It planned to re-open the center at a different location this month, but construction plans have pushed the opening back.

In August, The Parkersburg YMCA announced it was opening a new child-development center on September 5th at the St. Joseph's Landing.

Because of construction delays, the child care facility will now open in early October.

Officials say the construction is well worth it because of the more central location and more spacious facility

YMCA director of child care, Kim Sapp, explains “We did have a previous opening date, but due to construction and different codes, we’ve had to push that back a little bit. Well we have really gone from that ER look to more of a child development center. We have taken down walls, we’ve added walls, added rooms; really completely renovated the facility.”

The YMCA Child Care Center will be renamed to the YMCA Discovery Academy. They will also have openings for all age groups in the new facility.
