AUSTINTOWN, Ohio — For the third time in three weeks, Marietta College running back Roger Walker (Palm Bay, Fla./Bayside) has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Football Offensive Player of the Week Monday (Nov. 6) afternoon by the league office.
Walker helped the Pioneers beat Capital University, 49-21, on the road last weekend. The senior carried the ball 29 times gaining 224 yards with three touchdowns. It was his second straight game with over 200 yards rushing.
Continuing his pursuit of Marietta's career touchdown record, Walker scored on runs of 5, 4, and 70 yards against the Crusaders. He now has 50 touchdowns in his career and enters the season finale needing four to tie Danté Brown's school record of 54.
During this recent three-week stretch, Walker has averaged 229.0 yards per game and scored 11 touchdowns. He is averaging 7.4 yards every time he carries the football and has five runs of 30 or more yards.
Several milestones are within reach as the Pioneers host Otterbein this week in Don Drumm Stadium. Walker needs just 127 yards rushing to eclipse 4,000 yards in his career. In addition, he needs only 193 all-purpose yards to pass the 5,000-yard plateau. The all-time scoring record is also within reach as Walker trails Brown's mark of 328 points by 24.
For the season, Walker is averaging 142.0 yards rushing per game, second best in the OAC. He currently leads the conference in total touchdowns with 18, rushing touchdowns with 16, and total points scored with 110.
Marietta closes out the season at home next Saturday (Nov. 11). The Pioneers host Otterbein University for Veterans Appreciation Day. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. at Don Drumm Stadium.
